Playing Pokemon (not just trading)

I had only played Pokemon a time or two growing up, most of the appeal was trading cards. I recently started learning how to play and wow is it a complex game! I would love any advice or stories about playing because I am certainly making some stories of my own!

My daughter and I have been playing Pokemon TGC this year. You can buy Battle Academy. It's $20.00 and comes with three decks (Raichu, Charizard, Mewtwo) with setp by step rules on how to play. It even has instructions on how to walk you through every turn of your first game. And the decks are all evenly strong, so nobody has an advantage. We play this so much.

After that, we got Venusaur and Blastoise V decks to up our game a bit.
